Online Fashion Marketplace JOOR Taps Kristin Savilia as CEO

0

NEW YORK, NY – JOOR, the leading online, global marketplace for wholesale fashion buyers, announced that longtime retail, e-commerce and marketplace executive Kristin Savilia has joined the company as chief executive to lead the company through its next phase of growth.

Savilia, who most recently spent 11 years at XO Group — which runs the wedding, home and baby Web sites The Knot, The Nest and The Bump — started her career as a retail buyer and understands first-hand the value of JOOR’s service, a platform that connects fashion buyers and brands of all sizes online. The marketplace helps retail stores and boutiques save time, cut costs and better analyze the performance of their inventory through detailed data analytics.

“If JOOR had been available when I was a buyer, my job would have been so much easier,” said Savilia. “I wouldn’t have tracked my inventory with paper, binders and taped photos, and I certainly wouldn’t have bought similar items. The 24/7 online access to thousands of fashion brands on JOOR, and the platform’s deep analytics, make this service a real game-changer for buyers and brands.”

JOOR works with major retailers like Neiman Marcus and Harrods and brands including Zac Posen, Donna Karan and Dolce Vita. The marketplace also helps smaller designers and fashion brands to connect with buyers online. Savilia replaces Mona Bijoor, who is moving on to pursue other opportunities.

“Kristin’s experience uniquely equips her to lead JOOR as it transforms the fashion retail industry,” said David Liu, founder and chairman of XO Group, who worked with Savilia for nine years. “Prior to joining me at XO Group Inc. Kristin implemented new technology initiatives for major retailers to advance their businesses. As president of Local Marketplace at XO Group Inc., she created a platform for thousands of local retailers and service providers to better serve and acquire customers, through new technology solutions.”

At XO Group, in her most recent role running the local-marketplace group, Savilia grew the paid-vendor base by 57% and increased local sales revenue by 68%, seamlessly adding more than 250,000 local wedding vendors to TheKnot.com in one year. She was also a key leader in transitioning XO Group into a marketplace for wedding-related vendors.

Prior to joining The Knot in 2005, Savilia was an executive director at Linens N Things and regional director and buyer at Macy’s.

“We are excited to have Kristin on board, and to partner with her as she begins to lead JOOR through its next chapter,” said Michael Brown, a JOOR board member and general partner at Battery Ventures.

For the first time ever a fashion film festival will be launched at a movie studio, the Hollywood of the Balkans. Balkan Fashion Week will be held from June 5-10th at Nu Boyana Film Studios.
The ambition of the organizers is to gather artists from around the world in Bulgaria,a country not yet known as a fashion destination. The theme is “Fashion meets cinema” and Nu Boyana Film Studios is the gracious host and partner of the event. The event would not have been possible without the support of Nu Boyana Film Studios. Starting June 5 – 10th Nu Boyana will become the largest “Fashion City” in Eastern Europe.

With the educated eye of international industry professionals, designers and film directors will have the opportunity to showcase their work during Balkan Fashion Week.

The aim of the fashion platform is to create and establish lasting conditions for long term collaboration between East and West Europe. Various fashion and art presentations, as well as live music performances, will take place amidst the the scenery of the studio in Nu Boyana Film Studios.

At the special meeting with the media, the organizers of the biggest fashion forum in the Balkans revealed details of their event. The press conference opened with Mr. Yariv Lerner , the CEO of the Nu Boyana Film Studios expressing his excitement in the collaboration that will take place over the next few months at Nu Boyana. Nu Boyana gives their support to the special projects with the Balkan Fashion Week. Among the events taking place will be a film competition by the first annual international film festival, ASVOFF and the grand prize, the Nu Boyana prize, will be 50,000 EUROS in services and 5,000 euros in cash to the winner which will help fund the filming and realization of a short or feature film. Mr. Lerner is an advocate of supporting emerging talent. “This is only a small part of the the surprises that are in store for you and the exciting things that we have prepared.” Said Mr. Lerner.

The international fashion icon, blogger, talent scout and creator of the first annual international fashion film festival, Diane Pernet, was a guest at the conference. For the past nine years ASVOFF has been launched in Paris, first at the Jeu de Paume and then for the past 7 years at Centre Pompidou. This edition marks the first time the festival has been launched outside of Paris and on a film studio. Be prepared for live broadcasts of the event around the globe in locations such as Paris, London, Barcelona, Lisbon, Milan, Moscow and Bucharest.

“Up until now ASVOFF has screened at many locations around the world but this year we decided to do something completely different and to launch ASVOFF 9 on a film set, Nu Boyana.

The film studio is the heart and the soul of cinema so it only makes sense to launch ASVOFF 9 here and thanks to Mr. Lerner and Balkan Fashion Week we have been given that opportunity. We feel like kids in a toy shop in a constant state of wonderment at all the possibilities Nu Boyana studios provides.” Said Diane about the upcoming edition of her prestigious film festival.

In attendance at the press conference were Mira Postolache – International PR of Balkan Fashion Week, Jolita Manolova – Art Director of the Balkan Fashion Week, as well as some of the organizers : Teodora Guergova, Kristina Dimitrova, Maria Koleva, Elena Alexy and Mila Zaharieva.

Balkan Fashion week will partner in the campaign against breast cancer, which has a worldwide motto: #winelover against cancer. Its aim is to raise awareness and information about disease prevention. T-shirts with the campaign slogan will be available to purchase during Balkan Fashion Week. The funds raised by the sale of the t-shirts will go towards the purchase of a camper van, which will travel across the country providing research and information to women in Bulgaria.

Lingerie as Street-Wear

0

Ladies, we used to lunge into our lingerie drawers solely for two reasons. The first is the most obvious as lingerie was made to free women of corsets and allow them to indulge in visually appealing under garments: sex appeal.  What do we all do as we prepare in hopes of a “lucky” Friday night? Frantically search for that daring bra and underwear set our minds insist will thrill our steamy hook up (we all ache to look like a Victoria Secret Angel as we undress). Lingerie has always been made to make women feel sexy and personally, beneath all my tediously picked date night outfits is always a matching set that gives me that extra boost of sexual confidence to get a little frisky by the end of the night. Beyond the sex appeal reasoning, lingerie serves as a daily requirement and still calls for careful selection underneath casual wear. Why not wear the push-up bra under that v-neck shirt for a little spice? I don’t like visible underwear lines so thongs are pretty handy, but don’t get me wrong; I’ll rock boy shorts cleaning my house.

There seems to be a new fashion trend embracing us though that doesn’t require any cover up of that romantic lingerie we take secret pleasure in buying and all it involves is wearing it out. Edgy bralets, traditional corsets, and mesh body pieces are making their way into the fashion world as street wear while cultivating a look that can be feminine and sophisticated, but also a little daring for us modest folk. A couple years before this fashion trend sprouted, we’ve all had the experience of noting the girl prancing around in what you knew to be lingerie. Was it acceptable? She probably looked hot, but you still knew and noticed. If we take our chiffon, satin, and lace outside the bedroom I’d like to do it with some class which I must confess I have seen. The runway has been graced with an assortment of night slip dresses in which I find romantically charming, chic, and alluring. They are somewhat reminiscent to me of a classic 1930’s look which makes their boldness all the while acceptable. I am also guilty of wearing a black long-sleeved chiffon night robe as a dress to a cocktail party years ago so I guess I’m willing to take some daring steps in welcoming this trend.

Like with most things, I believe if you do it right you can rock it. I don’t want to see girls in night clubs with neon bras and shabby boy shorts on over fish nets because well, that’s only socially acceptable for me at raves. If we’re going to adopt lingerie as street wear let’s do it in a unique way that will highlight our generation. It’s taken a long time for lingerie to dwindle down to the small pieces of cloth we call underwear and comfortable bras we sport everyday so let’s be original. Women have fought long and hard to disengage from modesty so to be this daring will require that soft “woman’s touch.” Wear that lacey body piece with a matching bra under, paired with a blazer and high-waisted pencil skirt for a refined look that no one could comment on. Slip on that bralet you’ve been eyeing with one of those popular see through skirts and you’ve got an outfit that is flirtatious but still offers some coverage. And if it’s Friday night and you find yourself once again lunging into your lingerie drawer, throw on that favorite bra you love with a matching pair of fitted professional shorts for an outfit that will definitely be eye-catching to that steamy hook up you got your mind set on.

Fаѕhiоn iѕ a реndulum thаt swings from one side tо thе other, it ѕееmѕ. Althоugh designers аrе соnѕtаntlу соming up with сrеаtivе ways tо diffеrеntiаtе, it seems likе еvеrуthing old will еvеntuаllу bе new again. But understanding thе lаtеѕt fаѕhiоn trеndѕ for wоmеn iѕ a littlе mоrе соmрliсаtеd thаn wаiting fоr thе реndulum to ѕwing bасk thе оthеr way. Thеrе are five kеу factors thаt influеnсе thе сhаnging trеndѕ in wоmеn’ѕ fаѕhiоn.

Thеу аrе as fоllоwѕ:

Cоlоrѕ and sex appeal: Women have rulеѕ fоr what colors аrе right fоr timеѕ of thе уеаr. Spring iѕ a time of brightеr соlоrѕ аѕ if to celebrate the оnѕеt оf wаrmеr wеаthеr аnd fun in thе sun. During соldеr mоnthѕ, mаnу will сhооѕе tо wear dаrkеr сlоthеѕ аnd lоngеr ѕlееvеѕ. Nаturаllу, thеrе is a tеndеnсу tо cover up when it’ѕ соld аnd accentuate sex арреаl when it’s warmer.

Cеlеbritу: Thеrе is nо dеnуing thе influеnсе of fеmаlе сеlеbritiеѕ whеn it comes tо fаѕhiоn. The mоrе a female сеlеbritу iѕ аblе tо catch аttеntiоn with whаt ѕhе wеаrѕ, thе mоrе likеlу thаt fаѕhiоn choice will mаkе it into thе рubliс соnѕсiеnсе.

Dеѕignеrѕ: Ovеr time, сеrtаin fаѕhiоn dеѕignеrѕ hаvе garnered wеll-dеѕеrvеd rерutаtiоnѕ as fаѕhiоn еxреrtѕ. Thеir creative choices often influеnсе the fashion decisions thаt famous wоmеn mаkе. Sо bеhind еvеrу wеll-drеѕѕеd fеmаlе celebrity, thеrе is a rеѕресtеd dеѕignеr making hеr look fаbulоuѕ.

Woman’s prerogative: It iѕ the female рrеrоgаtivе tо сhаngе her mind, tо wеаr оnlу whаt ѕhе feels comfortable in, оr to сhооѕе ѕеxу and ѕtunning оvеr саѕuаl аnd comfortable. Thе оnе соnѕtаnt in women’s fаѕhiоn trends is thаt thеу аrе аlwауѕ changing, аnd thiѕ iѕ раrtlу due to the inсlinаtiоn оf a wоmаn to drеѕѕ bаѕеd on hеr еmоtiоnѕ. A wоmаn’ѕ prerogative iѕ nоt tо be diѕсоuntеd whеn it comes tо influеnсing thе trajectory of whеrе fаѕhiоn is, аnd where it will еnd uр.

Cоѕt: Cost is also a factor in wоmеn’ѕ fаѕhiоn trеndѕ. And thаt dоеѕ nоt necessarily mеаn wоmеn will аlwауѕ choose сhеар for the ѕаkе оf a dеаl. Prеmium рriсеd product iѕ juѕt аѕ аttrасtivе to women аѕ grеаt bаrgаinѕ off thе clearance rасk. How a piece of сlоthing is priced influеnсеѕ the vаluе a female соnѕumеr will place on the рrоduсt when deciding what purchases she ѕhоuld mаkе tо раmреr herself. Costs thаt are tоо сhеар indiсаtеѕ thаt the product may be сhеарlу mаdе аnd hаvе a short lifespan.

Undеrѕtаnding the latest fаѕhiоn trеndѕ fоr wоmеn iѕ оnlу роѕѕiblе if уоu undеrѕtаnd thе mindѕ оf wоmеn. It’ѕ nоt ѕоmеthing that can bе рigеоnhоlеd to mееt a certain ѕеt оf criteria. It’ѕ аll about a woman’s right tо find thе lооk that works bеѕt fоr hеr and bеѕt diѕрlауѕ her inner fееlingѕ, ѕtrеngth, аnd wоrth.

Among the subjects to be explored will be the latest advancements in stem cell treatments encompassing topical, invasive and elective procedures.

Questions will be put forth and answered by the world’s foremost experts in their respective fields pertaining to anti-aging and prolonging health and well being throughout one’s lifespan.

These queries will also serve as the basis for a future article to appear in Medical Tourism Association’s Annual Publication to be distributed at their 10th Annual World Congress and Expo in October 2-4 2017 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Epilogue:

“There is so much shame in our culture around aging,” says Koshin Paley Ellison, Buddhist monk and co-founder of the New York Zen Center of Contemplative Care.   Whereas Asian, European and African cultures have for millenniums revered their ‘elders’ as harbingers of insight, knowledge and deserving of respect; North America in an unrequited pursuit of youth is tantamount to a cultural obsession.

The tyranny of  ageism is symptomatic of a nation that is in the throes of its own historical adolescence, a transient society where the ties that bind no longer do and sage wisdom is best conveyed with 140 characters or less.

Lace In Fashion

0

Lace has been a sign of style and elegance since the sixteenth century. From fine luxury garments worn by royals and the aristocracy to machine-made fashions for the everyday, our brand new exhibition will reveal both the techniques and the top names that have made lace such an enduring fashion trend. Featuring over 40 historic treasures and designer dresses, Lace in Fashion draws on the riches of the Fashion Museum collection to showcase the skill and seduction of this fashionable fabric.

The oldest object in the exhibition will be a smock dating from around 1580 with Flemish bobbin lace on the sleeves and collar, one of the earliest pieces in the Fashion Museum collection. Another of the Museum’s rarest treasures will also appear in the show: the Silver Tissue Dress which dates from the 1660s is trimmed with exquisite parchment lace, a rare and delicate fabric made using tiny strips of parchment or paper wrapped in silk.

Other highlights include a navy blue lace dress worn by actress Lea Seydoux in the James Bond film Spectre, which has been loaned to the Fashion Museum by Australian design duo Lover, as well as elegant evening gowns by top fashion names Balmain, Balenciaga and Molyneux.

Lace in Fashion will be on display from 4 February 2017 to 1 January 2018.
